How to ‘harvest’ your compost / Die ‘oes’ van die kompos

The easiest way to harvest your home bin, is to take a black bag, go outside and throw the contents of the bin onto the black bag on the lawn.

Make yourself a cuppa tea, and when finished, take the top layer of the bin contents, and add to your plants, or compost heap.

You will always ‘harvest’ some worms – babies, teenager and some aged worms.  But the worms tend to move away from the light, deeper into the compost layer, and therefore you can take the top layers off and use it.

Unclog she drainage holes of the bin and add new shreds of newspaper to the bin (as you originally prepared your bin), return the remaining compost, feed the worms, and remember to add some honey to calm them.
