Compliments of Stacey @ Mother Earthworms, we have the following tips regarding stressed worms
…”Ok, worms that want to climb up sides of bins are showing a stress response, usually due to acidity (fruits ferment more in hot summer – hence higher acidity), or it can be that the wormery (usually black) is too hot (above 30 degrees), which could make the worms panic.
Try:
* VERY NB!! Feed food in MIDDLE of the bed, as this will give worms a safe place (around food) to move to IF there is acidity.
* sprinkle agricultural lime over the bed and mix in gently, and lastly, cut back on fruits in summer, rather go for more bland veg, like butternut etc. you can also place half avocado peels near the worms. They like to rest and mate there
* placing a wad of very damp shredded newspaper / imbibed with honey/molasses IN the worm bed, and place errant worms IN it. This acts a as a safe buffer, and will give worms energy.

Hi Stacey
Just read your comment about the honey in the newspaper….
what does it do exactly – as Ive never heard of it before…..
also another tip, is not to put pasta, bread cereals into a wormery when very hot, as they create lots of heat as they start to compost down
